Hawaii In a Box
May 1st, 2009

Last year, I created a set of fake Hawaiian Airline tickets based on an image that I found on the Internet. Everything was done from scratch, and it took a while, but it was fun, and well worth the time.

The tickets were part of a larger package for my Aunt and Uncle, celebrating their wedding anniversary. The package contained a do-it-yourself Hawaii In a Box kit complete with tickets, sand, fake palm tree, fake postcards, candles, leis, starfish, sea shells, and a display dish.

My Aunt& Uncle always wanted to go to Hawaii on their anniversary, but could never afford it (not many of us can). My Stepmother put this little kit together for them both as a light-hearted joke and as a way to brighten their spirits.

I even went so far as to design both the product logo and the manufacturer logo. Since everyone makes fun of my Stepmother’s hair color, I thought the company name, logo, and slogan should reflect that. Large stickers were printed and stuck to the sides of the shipping box. I even printed small labels and started placing them on food items throughout the cupboard and refrigerator as an added lark. Have you ever had Ditzy Blonde™ brand milk? I have!

Unfortunately, my Uncle passed away from cancer before the box was shipped. Aside from these images that I recently re-discovered in my computer, I doubt the kit will ever be seen again.
